Installing early won’t use any data or start your plan until you arrive in Romania.
If your iPhone shows an activation error during pre-install, you can ignore often it - refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide for help.

Just scan the QR code you receive or install via the ZenSim app using WiFi. Once you touch down in Romania, your eSIM will go live automatically.
If anything goes wrong, check out our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact us 😊
Once you arrive in Romania, your eSIM activates automatically if it’s already installed.
If you install it after arriving, the eSIM will activate and begin working immediately.
For any setup or connection problems, refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact our support.

No - the plan’s data and days only start when you arrive in Romania. Installation beforehand simply sets it up for activation on landing.

Most ZenSim eSIMs can be topped up directly inside the app. If you ever need extra data, additional days, or want to include a new destination on the same eSIM, the Zen Garden is where you can do it.
Simply log in, tap into the Zen Garden, and you’ll find the option to top up right there.
Available top ups: For Romania, the top up plans are identical to the ones on the site, but you get a 10% discount.
Extending your stay: Planning to be away longer than 30 days? You can buy multiple top ups ahead of time. They activate one after another, so there’s no risk of replacing your current plan.
More than one country: Many eSIMs now let you attach extra countries through a top up. For example, while using a Europe eSIM you can add Singapore as an extra destination. It will activate automatically when you land in Singapore.
Your Romania eSIM is designed for use within Romania, so once it's been activated there, it won’t work in other countries.
If you're visiting multiple destinations, a better option might be one of our regional Travel eSIMs that cover entire regions like Europe or Asia.
Yep, you can, can you should! For every friend or family member you refer to purchase a Romania eSIM, you will earn a A$5 voucher to use on your next purchase AND they will save A$5 on their purchase.
All you have to do is share your unique referral URL with them, which you can access after purchase, and if they click it and purchase the savings are automatic.
You can monitor your referrals and find your personal referral URL directly in the ZenSim app. Read our terms for full details.
Great question! Our Romania unlimited plans come with a 3GB daily allowance, which is plenty for most travellers - the average person uses under 1GB a day.
If you do blow past that in a single day, your speed drops to 1Mbps until midnight, when your daily allowance resets and you're back to full speed.
If you're on a fixed-data plan instead (say 10GB or 20GB), there's no daily cap at all - use as much as you like until the plan runs out. We'll give you a heads up before that happens, and topping up is just a couple of taps away in the ZenSim app.
Your plan won't start using data or counting down days until you actually arrive in Romania - so there's zero risk in installing it early.
As long as you've already installed your eSIM, it'll automatically activate the moment you land, and that's when your days and data officially kick off.
From there, your eSIM expires when either your data or your days run out, whichever comes first (unless you're on an unlimited plan, in which case it's purely down to the days). So if you grab a 30-day plan, it'll run out 30 days after you arrive in Romania, not 30 days from when you bought it.
Simplest way is to pop your phone into our eSIM compatibility checker - it'll tell you straight away whether it's good to go with our Romania eSIM and the networks behind it.
If you're still unsure after that, get in touch with us and we'll help you figure it out. And just in case your phone isn't compatible after all, our refund policy means you'll get a full refund - so go ahead and grab a plan without the worry.
You're covered - our 100% money back guarantee exists for exactly this situation.
Trip cancelled? Phone not eSIM-compatible? Plans changed and you just don't need it anymore? All of these are covered.
The full details sit in our refund policy, but in short: if you can't install or use the eSIM, we'll give you a full refund. You shouldn't have to pay for something you can't use.

Visit the Legendary Bran Castle
Often associated with Dracula’s legend, Bran Castle is one of Romania’s most famous landmarks. Perched on a rocky cliff, this medieval fortress is surrounded by misty forests, gothic towers, and eerie passageways. While the connection to Vlad the Impaler (the inspiration for Dracula) is debated, the castle’s dark, mysterious atmosphere and rich history make it a must-visit. Inside, you’ll find ancient armour, royal chambers, and hidden staircases, offering a glimpse into Romania’s medieval past.
Explore the Stunning Transfagarasan Highway
Dubbed ‘the best road in the world’ by Top Gear, the Transfagarasan Highway is an engineering marvel that winds through the Carpathian Mountains. The drive offers breathtaking panoramic views, winding switchbacks, and high-altitude lakes. Along the way, stop at Balea Lake, a stunning glacial lake that offers some of the most picturesque scenery in Romania. The highway is only open from June to October, making it a seasonal yet unforgettable adventure.
Wander Through the Medieval Streets of Sighisoara
Sighisoara is one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval towns, complete with cobblestone streets, colourful houses, and fortified towers. It’s also the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the real-life figure behind the Dracula legend. The Clock Tower, dating back to the 14th century, offers breathtaking views of the historic town below. The town’s charming cafés, local markets, and medieval festivals make it a perfect place to experience Romania’s rich heritage.
