The nitty gritty
Rwanda eSIM FAQs
No, our Rwanda eSIMs only deliver mobile data. For voice or SMS, you’ll need to use an app that works over data - WhatsApp, Messenger, or other similar internet calling platforms.
Of course. You can install your Rwanda eSIM up to 30 days before departure. Once you arrive, it will activate automatically.
Installing early won’t use any data or start your plan until you arrive in Rwanda.
If your iPhone shows an activation error during pre-install, you can ignore often it - refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide for help.
Our Rwanda travel eSIM is strictly for data; it doesn’t come with a phone number or traditional call/SMS service. You will need to use an internet based app for communication.
Your eSIM will activate automatically once you step off the plane in Rwanda. We do suggest installing your Rwanda Travel eSIM before departure (installation ≠ activation).
Installation is a breeze: scan the QR code provided or install via the ZenSim app over WiFi. Upon landing, the eSIM will activate itself.
Encountering issues? Visit our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact us 😊
If installed before your trip, it will activate when you land in Rwanda.
If installed after arrival, it goes live right away.
Having issues? Check our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact us for assistance.
If you want to avoid roaming headaches in Rwanda, a travel eSIM is the smarter pick:
Big Savings: Our local Rwanda eSIM data plans are priced for residents, not tourists who pay premium roaming costs.
Easy Plan Changes: Upgrade or downgrade your data allowance on the fly - no need for a new SIM.
Full Transparency: See your data usage in - app so you won’t run out unexpectedly or incur extra charges.
Data and plan days only kick in when you arrive in Rwanda. Installing earlier just prepares it for activation which happens automatically when you arrive in Rwanda.
Install over WiFi before your trip to get connected from the minute you touch down.
If you have trouble connecting, see our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or message us for assistance.
Yes! Our eSIMs cover more than 200 countries, including Rwanda. We even provide regional eSIMs that span multiple countries in one package - head over to our Travel eSIMs page to learn more.

Installation Queries: Need a walkthrough on how to install? View our eSIM install tutorial - or drop us a line via our contact form.
General Support: Have something else in mind? Reach out here and we’ll handle it swiftly.
Yes it can. Nearly all ZenSim eSIMs support top ups inside the app. You can boost your data, add extra days, or attach a new country to the same eSIM from the Zen Garden in only a few steps.
Just log into the app, open the Zen Garden, and you’ll find the top up control ready to use.
Top up choices: The Rwanda top ups match the plans on our website, just with an extra 10% off.
If you're travelling longer than 30 days: You can purchase multiple top ups in advance. They only activate once the current plan finishes, so nothing overwrites your existing eSIM.
If your trip includes several destinations: Many of our eSIMs support multi country top ups. For example, you can add Dubai to a Europe eSIM and it will activate the moment you arrive without reinstalling anything.
Not exactly. Once your Rwanda eSIM is active, it’s tied to that country.
If you're visiting more than one place, our regional Travel eSIMs offer broader coverage so you can roam freely across multiple destinations.
Yep, you can, can you should! For every friend or family member you refer to purchase a Rwanda eSIM, you will earn a A$5 voucher to use on your next purchase AND they will save A$5 on their purchase.
All you have to do is share your unique referral URL with them, which you can access after purchase, and if they click it and purchase the savings are automatic.
You can monitor your referrals and find your personal referral URL directly in the ZenSim app. Read our terms for full details.
It might, but only if you're on an unlimited plan and only after you pass 3GB in a single day - which is well above what most people actually use (under 1GB a day on average).
Once you hit that 3GB mark, your speed drops to 1Mbps until midnight, then resets back to full speed for the new day.
If you're on a fixed-data plan like 10GB or 20GB, none of this applies - there's no daily limit, just use your data as needed until the plan runs out. We'll notify you beforehand, and you can top up right away in the ZenSim app.
There's no fixed start date the moment you buy it - your plan sits dormant until you actually arrive in Rwanda, so buying and installing it early doesn't cost you any data or days.
Once you land, provided the eSIM is already installed, it activates automatically and that's your official start date.
Your expiry date follows on from there - the plan ends once either your data or your days run out, whichever comes first (or just the days, if you're on unlimited). So a 30-day plan expires 30 days after you land in Rwanda, regardless of when you originally bought it.
Simplest way is to pop your phone into our eSIM compatibility checker - it'll tell you straight away whether it's good to go with our Rwanda eSIM and the networks behind it.
If you're still unsure after that, get in touch with us and we'll help you figure it out. And just in case your phone isn't compatible after all, our refund policy means you'll get a full refund - so go ahead and grab a plan without the worry.
You're covered - our 100% money back guarantee exists for exactly this situation.
Trip cancelled? Phone not eSIM-compatible? Plans changed and you just don't need it anymore? All of these are covered.
The full details sit in our refund policy, but in short: if you can't install or use the eSIM, we'll give you a full refund. You shouldn't have to pay for something you can't use.
