The nitty gritty
South America eSIM FAQs
Yep! Our South America travel eSIMs come with an unlimited data option for both 5, 15 or 30 days depending on your needs. Unlimited data is great for those who want to just enjoy and not worry about blowing out a data cap. If you need more than 30 days you can also extend/top up the South America eSIM in our ZenSim app - easy.
No, our South America eSIMs only deliver mobile data. For voice or SMS, you’ll need to use an app that works over data - WhatsApp, Messenger, or other similar internet calling platforms.
Definitely. Install your South America travel eSIM up to 30 days before departure, and it will activate automatically when you arrive.
Installing early won’t consume data or days from your plan until you land in South America.
If an iPhone shows an activation error when installing abroad, you can safely ignore it - check our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide for guidance.
Our South America travel eSIM is strictly for data; it doesn’t come with a phone number or traditional call/SMS service. You will need to use an internet based app for communication.
Your eSIM will activate automatically when you arrive in South America. We recommend installing your South America Travel eSIM in advance (installation is different from activation).
Just scan the QR code you receive or install via the ZenSim app using WiFi. Once you touch down in South America, your eSIM will go live automatically.
If anything goes wrong, check out our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact us 😊
Once you arrive in South America, your eSIM activates automatically if it’s already installed.
If you install it after arriving, the eSIM will activate and begin working immediately.
For any setup or connection problems, refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact our support.
Hands down, a travel eSIM beats roaming in South America. Here’s why:
Cheaper Data: Pay local prices rather than roaming surcharges from your home network.
Instant Setup: No waiting for physical SIM delivery - your eSIM is ready the minute you land.
Full Expense Control: Track data usage and spending in - app, so you avoid surprise fees.
Not until you land in South America. Installing ahead won’t start your plan; it goes live automatically when you arrive.
Make sure to install before you travel, as WiFi is required for setup and this way your South America eSIM will be ready to use when you land.
If you encounter connection issues, see our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact support.
Of course! At ZenSim, we offer eSIMs that support over 200+ destinations, including South America. On top of this we also provide regional eSIMs which cover multiple countries within one eSIM, please see our Travel eSIMs page for more info on these.

If you’ve chosen a regional plan, your South America eSIM works in all included countries - check the section above to confirm coverage.
That means one activation gives you reliable service across the region and includes all of the countries specified above.
Yes it can. Nearly all ZenSim eSIMs support top ups inside the app. You can boost your data, add extra days, or attach a new country to the same eSIM from the Zen Garden in only a few steps.
Just log into the app, open the Zen Garden, and you’ll find the top up control ready to use.
Top up choices: The South America top ups match the plans on our website, just with an extra 10% off.
If you're travelling longer than 30 days: You can purchase multiple top ups in advance. They only activate once the current plan finishes, so nothing overwrites your existing eSIM.
If your trip includes several destinations: Many of our eSIMs support multi country top ups. For example, you can add Dubai to a Europe eSIM and it will activate the moment you arrive without reinstalling anything.
Very true! Not only that, you can refer as many people as you like to buy our South America eSIM, you'll earn a A$5 voucher for each referral - and they will also save A$5 on their order.
There's a couple of things to be aware of, firstly they have to be a new customer for this to apply, and you as the referrer can only use one A$5 voucher per order if you happen to refer a whole lot of friends.
You can view your referral performance and grab your referral URL in the ZenSim app. Visit our terms for more info.
Great question! Our South America unlimited plans come with a 3GB daily allowance, which is plenty for most travellers - the average person uses under 1GB a day.
If you do blow past that in a single day, your speed drops to 1Mbps until midnight, when your daily allowance resets and you're back to full speed.
If you're on a fixed-data plan instead (say 10GB or 20GB), there's no daily cap at all - use as much as you like until the plan runs out. We'll give you a heads up before that happens, and topping up is just a couple of taps away in the ZenSim app.
Your days and data don't start counting down the second you buy the eSIM - they only kick in once you actually land in South America, so feel free to install it well ahead of your trip.
As long as it's already installed, it'll auto-activate the moment you arrive, and that's when the clock starts on your plan.
As for when it ends - your plan runs until either your data or your days are used up, whichever happens first (unless you're unlimited, in which case it's just the days that matter). A 30-day plan means it ends 30 days from your arrival in South America, not 30 days from your purchase date.
Best way to find out is with our eSIM compatibility checker - just enter your phone details and it'll confirm whether it's compatible with our South America eSIM and networks.
Not 100% sure, or getting an unexpected result? Contact us and we'll help sort it out. Worst case scenario, if your phone truly isn't compatible, our refund policy gives you a full refund - so there's no risk in trying.
Yep, that's precisely why we offer a 100% money back guarantee.
Whether it's a cancelled trip, an incompatible phone, or your travel plans simply shifting, you're covered either way.
You'll find the full breakdown in our refund policy, but the gist is: can't install it, can't use it, we'll refund it in full. Simple as that.

Top 4 Things to Do in South America
1. Trek to Machu Picchu, Peru
Machu Picchu is the crown jewel of South America, an ancient Incan citadel perched high in the Andes Mountains. Whether you hike the legendary Inca Trail over several days or take the scenic train through the Sacred Valley, arriving at this UNESCO World Heritage site is an experience like no other. Wander through the stone terraces and temples while clouds drift below you, and soak in the surrounding peaks of Huayna Picchu. It's a bucket-list moment that rewards every traveller with awe.
2. Dance Through the Streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires is a city bursting with passion, culture, and rhythm. Spend an evening in San Telmo watching couples glide across cobblestone squares in an impromptu tango performance. Explore the colourful houses of La Boca, sample world-class steaks in Palermo, and wander through grand European-style architecture that gives the city its nickname, the "Paris of South America." With its late-night energy and welcoming locals, Buenos Aires never feels like it slows down.
3. Discover the Wonders of Iguazu Falls, Brazil and Argentina
Few natural wonders compare to the sheer scale and power of Iguazu Falls. Spanning the border between Brazil and Argentina, this massive system of waterfalls cuts through lush rainforest, creating a thunderous spectacle of mist and rainbows. Walk the boardwalks on the Argentine side for up-close views, or head to the Brazilian side for sweeping panoramas of the entire falls. Surrounded by national parks teeming with wildlife, Iguazu is a must for nature lovers.
4. Join the Party at Rio Carnaval, Brazil
Rio Carnaval is the biggest party on the planet, and experiencing it at least once is unforgettable. The energy takes over the entire city for days, with samba schools parading through the Sambadrome in elaborate costumes and pulsing rhythms that don't stop. Beyond the official parades, street parties known as blocos pop up across neighbourhoods like Santa Teresa and Ipanema, open to anyone keen to dance along. Pair the carnival buzz with Rio's stunning beaches and mountain backdrops for a trip that's pure sensory overload, in the best way.
