Mexico is one of my favourite Latin American nations. The music, the people, the food, the fiestas… this fabulously fun country fascinates even the most battle-hardened traveller.

Best eSIM for Mexico (for Aussies in 2026)

And for Aussies visiting from halfway across the world, our weird foreign accents make us instant celebs – expect to meet plenty of new friends.

But it’s not the kind of place you want to rely on hotel WiFi, as wandering into the wrong block could get you shot. Plus, with mobile data at your fingertips, you’re never far from the best taco stall or tequila bar.

To help you get connected for a fair price, we’re covering the best Mexico eSIMs for Aussies in 2026.

¡Vamos, muchachos!

WHAT IS AN ESIM?

Not super familiar with the tech? Think of the eSIM as a digital SIM card profile. Instead of inserting a tiny plastic card into your tiny SIM tray, you download a virtual SIM from a website and install it on your phone.

The whole process takes a few minutes and doesn’t require any tech skills. Upon your arrival in Mexico, the eSIM will automatically activate for a seamless connection.

Nowadays, eSIMs work with most modern smartphones. See our eSIM compatibility checker

WHY USE AN ESIM IN MEXICO?

The travel eSIM hits the sweet spot between convenience and cost.

Global roaming is easy. You sign up with your existing provider and switch it on. But even the cheapest roaming plans are pricey, and they can become exorbitant when excess data charges apply.

Signing up for a local Mexican SIM is cheap. But it’s a huge hassle. You’ll need to find an authorised retailer, choose a suitable plan, pry open your SIM tray, switch two tiny cards, hand over your passport, and wait for the vendor to activate your plan. Good luck getting through all that if you don’t speak a lick of Spanish.

With an eSIM, you can compare prices online and set up a plan within minutes – no awkward Spanglish interactions required. With low-data ZenSim eSIMs starting from just A$12 ($8 USD), you don’t have to spend big to get connected the easy way in Mexico.

THE BEST ESIMS FOR AUSSIES VISITING MEXICO IN 2026

Enough digressing. Let’s compare the best Mexico eSIMs for Australians. To keep things fair, we’ll only look at the costings for 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, and Unlimited plans.

ZENSIM

An up-and-comer from Australia, ZenSim offers quality connections at a lower cost than the big-name eSIMs. Customers get exceptional speeds and coverage on the Movistar network, and can top up data or extend the duration through a user-friendly mobile app. Unique to ZenSim, you can also add new destinations, perfect if you want a USA stopover.

Digital nomads will appreciate unlimited hotspotting, as well as a transparent 3GB/day use cap on unlimited plans. ZenSim offers responsive customer support from an Australian agent should you have any questions or issues. But don’t just take our word for it. ZenSim boasts an industry-leading 4.9 / 5 on ProductReview.com.au.

PlanPrice
5GB - 30 daysA$25 ($16 USD)
10GB - 30 daysA$37 ($24 USD)
20GB - 30 daysA$59 ($40 USD)
Unlimited - 30 daysA$105 ($71 USD)

SIMIFY

Also hailing from Australia, Simify is a growing provider offering eSIMs to 150+ destinations, including Mexico. For a single-country trip to Mexico, Simify only offer an unlimited data plan. If you do go unlimited, note that the daily use cap is hidden within a “Fair Use” policy. That means you won’t know how much data you can use before being throttled – not ideal.

Data-capped plans are available on a regional North America plan (Mexico, USA, Canada), albeit at higher prices than other providers. One unique Simify feature is long-duration plans, such as 60- or 90-day plans, which offer better value for longer stays (but they’re still not that cheap). Simify offer round-the-clock support via a mobile app and has a solid 4.8 Trustpilot rating. That’s despite not disclosing its partner networks in Mexico, which is a tad concerning given the high prices.

PlanPrice
5GB - 7 days (North America)A$29 ($22 USD)
10GB - 30 days (North America)A$49 ($36 USD)
20GB - 30 days (North America)A$75 ($55 USD)
Unlimited - 30 days (Mexico only)A$127.20 ($94 USD)

HOLAFLY

Based in Dublin, Holafly is a humongous (13 million+ customers) Spanish-owned eSIM brand specialising in unlimited data plans. But buyer beware: Holafly also doesn’t disclose its daily use cap, instead concealing it within an ambiguous “Fair Use” policy. That’s annoyed a large number of punters, which may have dragged down its 4.6 / 5 score on TrustPilot.

You’ve probably seen Holafly recommended online. It’s worth knowing these “recommendations” are part of an affiliate program that pays bloggers and influencers a commission on each sale – they’re hardly impartial. Also note that Holafly has a 1GB hotspotting limit, which can complicate remote work. On the plus side, it partners with reputable networks (Movistar Mexico/Telcel).

PlanPrice
5GB - 30 daysOnly unlimited
10GB - 30 daysOnly unlimited
20GB - 30 daysOnly unlimited
Unlimited - 30 daysA$117 ($74.90 USD)

JETPAC GLOBAL

Based in Singapore, Jetpac Global is a well-known eSIM with a strong social media presence. The brand tries to justify higher prices with a range of unique perks. Users get free access to essential apps (WhatsApp, Uber, Grab, Google Maps) after running out of data, and paid voice calls (US$1.99 for 5 minutes) in 50+ countries. You also get free lounge access for delayed flights. However, the catch is that you must register flight details in advance and can only access a limited selection of lounges.

Jetpac sets prices high to begin with, then reduces them significantly to create perceived value. Known as “price anchoring,” the practice is similar to what you see at Woolies and Coles. Jetpac doesn’t list its partner networks online, which is a red flag IMO. Nonetheless, it has a decent Trustpilot score of 4.7 / 5.

PlanPrice
5GB - 30 daysA$28.50 ($18 USD)
10GB - 30 daysA$55 ($35 USD)
20GB - 30 daysA$94.50 ($60 USD)
Unlimited - 30 daysNot available

SAILY

Saily is an eSIM from Nord Security, which you probably know from NordVPN. As you might expect, Saily offers a range of security features, including built-in ad blockers, browsing protection, and a virtual location tool. You can also get a VPN bundle for extra protection.

Having said that, most Aussies on holiday don’t need enterprise-level cybersecurity, and these features presumably add to the cost. We also don’t see any mention of partner networks on its sales page, and it has a smaller-than-average 30-day activation limit. On the plus side, Saily is simple to set up and offers unlimited hotspotting, which may contribute to its favourable 4.8 / 5 Trustpilot rating.

PlanPrice
5GB - 30 daysA$25.50 ($16.99 USD)
10GB - 30 daysA$37.50 ($24.99 USD)
20GB - 30 daysA$69 ($45.99 USD)
Unlimited - 30 daysA$108 ($71.99 USD)

WHAT ABOUT A LATIN AMERICAN ESIM?

Best eSIM for Mexico (for Aussies in 2026)

Planning on hitting other LATAM countries while you’re on that side of the world? That’s not uncommon for Aussies, given the long flight to get there.

The good news is you can save money with a ZenSim Latin America plan if you're travelling outside of Mexico. For just a few bucks extra, you can visit 17 countries on the same eSIM, enjoying a seamless, uninterrupted connection as you cross between borders.

10GB - 30 daysA$39 ($26 USD)
20GB - 30 daysA$59 ($39 USD)

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MEXICO ESIM?

Before selecting an eSIM, weigh up the key considerations to ensure it aligns with your needs.

PARTNER NETWORKS

A good partner network, such as Movistar, can mean the difference between a speedy and sluggish connection. ¡Ten cuidado! eSIMs that don’t disclose partner networks are suss.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

Some offshore eSIMs sneak in surcharges at checkout. Australian brands tend to be more transparent as they must comply with ACCC standards.

DAILY USE CAP

Unlimited customers should know their daily data cap, AKA how much they can download before 1Mbps throttling kicks in. Some eSIMs hide this figure within a “Fair Use” policy.

HOTSPOTTING RESTRICTIONS

Mexico is a world-class digital nomad destination. If you’re planning to work online from your laptop, you’ll want an eSIM with unlimited hotspotting.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

The best eSIMs offer responsive customer support through a web-based medium, such as WhatsApp, as international phone calls are costly and hard to organise.

REFUND POLICIES

Any chance your plans will change? The top eSIMs offer full, no-questions-asked refunds for any cancellations made before departure.

SIMPLE MOBILE APP

You don’t want to mess around with a clunky online portal just to extend your eSIM. The best providers have sleek, user-friendly apps that let you add data, days, and even destinations.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

Review websites cut through the marketing hype to give you real-world insight into how an eSIM performs on the ground. Sort by one-star ratings to pick through the horror stories first.

COST

Opting for an affordable eSIM means leftover pesos to spend on tacos and tequila.
