The nitty gritty
India eSIM FAQs
Traditional calls and SMS aren’t part of our India eSIM packages - they’re strictly data/internet. To talk or text, use internet based services (WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.) with your eSIM data.
Of course. You can install your India eSIM up to 30 days before departure. Once you arrive, it will activate automatically.
Installing early won’t use any data or start your plan until you arrive in India.
If your iPhone shows an activation error during pre-install, you can ignore often it - refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide for help.
No - our India travel eSIMs are data-only, so they don’t come with a voice line or phone number. Any calls or texts must go through internet apps like WhatsApp or Messenger.
Your eSIM will activate automatically when you arrive in India. We recommend installing your India Travel eSIM in advance (installation is different from activation).
Just scan the QR code you receive or install via the ZenSim app using WiFi. Once you touch down in India, your eSIM will go live automatically.
If anything goes wrong, check out our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact us 😊
Once you arrive in India, your eSIM activates automatically if it’s already installed.
If you install it after arriving, the eSIM will activate and begin working immediately.
For any setup or connection problems, refer to our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or contact our support.
Good question! Opting for a travel eSIM instead of roaming in India offers clear advantages:
Lower Costs: Say goodbye to outrageous roaming bills by switching to a local travel package designed for India.
Seamless Switching: Change between data plans without fumbling with physical SIM cards - perfect for spontaneous travellers.
Budget Control: Track data usage in real time and avoid surprise charges or overages.
No - the plan’s data and days only start when you arrive in India. Installation beforehand simply sets it up for activation on landing.
We recommend installing before departure since you will need WiFi to complete the installation process and this way you will be connected as soon as you land.
If you need help connecting, check our eSIM Troubleshooting Guide or reach out to us.

Yep! 99% of our eSIMs can be topped up within the ZenSim app with just a couple of clicks. If you run out of data, need more days, or you even want to add a new destination to the same eSIM, you can do all of this in the top up section in the Zen Garden in the app.
Log into the app, navigate to the Zen Garden to find your India service, and you will see a button to up your eSIM right there.
Top up plan options: India top up plans are the same as the plans on the website except with a 10% discount!
Extending a long trip: If you're travelling to India for more than 30 days, you can add as many top ups as you need to your first eSIM to extend the days and data you have. Each top up will only take effect when the previous eSIM is expired so you can purchase the top ups any time you want without worrying about overwriting your existing plan.
Multi country top ups: You can now add multiple countries to most of our eSIMs via top up, so if you're in Europe for example and are stopping over in Dubai on the way home, you can add a Dubai top up to your Europe eSIM so you don't need to reinstall anything. Alternate country top ups will only activate when you arrive in the new country.
Once activated in India, your eSIM typically won’t function outside that country.
If you're planning to hop between countries, we recommend checking out our regional Travel eSIMs - they’re made for multi-country use and cover most major regions.
Yep, you can, can you should! For every friend or family member you refer to purchase a India eSIM, you will earn a A$5 voucher to use on your next purchase AND they will save A$5 on their purchase.
All you have to do is share your unique referral URL with them, which you can access after purchase, and if they click it and purchase the savings are automatic.
You can monitor your referrals and find your personal referral URL directly in the ZenSim app. Read our terms for full details.
Great question! Our India unlimited plans come with a 3GB daily allowance, which is plenty for most travellers - the average person uses under 1GB a day.
If you do blow past that in a single day, your speed drops to 1Mbps until midnight, when your daily allowance resets and you're back to full speed.
If you're on a fixed-data plan instead (say 10GB or 20GB), there's no daily cap at all - use as much as you like until the plan runs out. We'll give you a heads up before that happens, and topping up is just a couple of taps away in the ZenSim app.
Not at all - installing early doesn't use up any of your days or data, and it doesn't set a start date either. Everything stays dormant until you actually land in India.
Once you arrive, and provided you've already installed it, your eSIM activates automatically and your plan's official start date is that moment of arrival.
The end date follows on from there - it'll expire once your data or days run out, whichever happens first (or just the days if you've gone unlimited). A 30-day plan gives you a full 30 days from the moment you land in India, no matter how far in advance you bought or installed it.
Definitely - our eSIM compatibility checker is built exactly for this. Punch in your phone details and you'll get an instant answer on whether it works with our India eSIM and networks.
Want a second opinion, or something seems off? Message us and we'll help you out. And even if you do end up buying and it turns out your phone can't use it, our refund policy means a full refund - so there's genuinely no downside to trying.
You're covered - our 100% money back guarantee exists for exactly this situation.
Trip cancelled? Phone not eSIM-compatible? Plans changed and you just don't need it anymore? All of these are covered.
The full details sit in our refund policy, but in short: if you can't install or use the eSIM, we'll give you a full refund. You shouldn't have to pay for something you can't use.
